Hawkes Bay Storm

Unread post by Achten »

Did not really affect me at all, saw the lightening around 2:30am and the rain was steady. Iam about 25k south of Hastings and recieved around 19mm. Closer to Hastings an individual i know recorded 30mm. The closer to got to Napier the higher the rain fall. Unofficial electronic rain guages in the storm area recorded 130mm to 148mm in a 2 -3 hr period.
The main drama was that the Napeir City Council had taken Storm water punps out for servicing which resulted in the extreme flooding. There was also reports of isolated hail causing some damage.

Apparently (according to Augie Auer on the radio this arvo) there was quite a bit of hail at the beginning of the storm - not large stones, but lots of smaller hail, and this added to the flooding damage.
