Interesting cloud over Chch this afternoon

Unread post by tich »

After several days of fine weather, including the last 2 virtually cloudless days, a northwest arch has built over Canterbury today. Not only that, but some mammatus has developed as well, even some (what looks like)virga is visible to the west. No raindrops here (nothing forecast east of the Alps), but a sure change from recent fine days.

There was some interesting virga forms in the NW Arch this afternoon :)
I thought that either you or Aaron may have taken a photo or 2 to post up on this forum?
There were one or two large drops around 5:30pm with this cloud.
The angle of the sun at this time of year can highlight clouds like mammatus.
Good NW Arch :)
I got to 25 2C today

Some amazing colours and cloud forms under the NW arch at sunset this evening.

[I've noticed that thumbnails don't seem to look very good but nothing has been changed recently :-k ]

Awsome pics Steven G!! Atleast the sunset tonight was something interesting to look at while storms are at bay.

Do not fear John, for I have some pics!

Yes Steven G, some nice colours out there tonight. I've taken a few pics plus pans aswell although some of my pans aren't lined up correctly, I didn't use a tripod which I should be doing!! Here you go, clickable thumbnails:

I noticed a few Cu over B'sP on the way home from eastgate and I also saw that virga coming out of the arch, I had a few drops of rain aswell at home, not very hard though.

And here's the sunset pics from my place tonight:
