Cumulus popped up and is now towering ;)

It will, like 3 days in a row, become cloudy :?

I did hear a forecast on a radio station for afternoon showers. :?
A mighty inversion at 2000m and with dewpoints quite dry at 12C, so showers not possible. :D

It better be "nice" in Auckland next week. ;) The little sheep is coming to the Big City to work for the week.

Are you guys going to treat me to a big fat North Island thunder storm?

The cloud looked quite dark to the east in Chch midafternoon, but that must've been the effect of the sun against it. A weak dry southerly has cooled things down, but afternoon temps probably normal for this time of year.

Strangely enough on Friday afternoon while I was relaxing outside, there were some spits of rain for a short time, hardly call it showers though.. :)

There was some drizzle forecast for Canterbury early today, and yes it did occur, though only slight stuff along with low cloud in Chch. In fact some more light (ie not enough to dampen anything) drizzle continued to blow in from the northeast near Akaroa in a gusty northeaster. But the day happened to be only partly cloudy. I believe the low cloud in Chch might've persisted through the day.

Cheers Brian, if I'm not lost, crying somewhere, stuck in the wrong lane on the motorway, or of course not too busy with work, I'd love to catch up.

I've just about finished mapping all of NZ now, including an up-to-date Auckland ;) make sure you bring your Legend! It won't help you pick the correct lane in the motorway though!

Fine and warm the last couple of days in the waikato basin. Saturday we had some cumulonimbus developing but they died out before a shower was likely. Yesterday was mostly sunny 24c, the W cleared clouds from afternoon. :D

Hot and sunny here today in Chch (23 C @ 1pm) with a few vails of high cloud, winds light from southerly quarter winds. Humid aswell with a dewpoint of currently 15! (1pm)

Could be some buildups on the plains but as per Metservices thunderstorm outlook, the Otago area might get something.

Warm and sunny both today and yesterday around Akaroa, but I did notice some sea fog towards the Akaroa Harbour entrance this morning.

Dunno if this is worth posting but there are some nice looking buildups happening in aucks at the mo.

Obviously to do with the shallow trough over the NI today which is sposed to bring some showers.

Man its hot outside!!

MHO - the seven day prognosis seems to support what your saying, lets hope for a weekend of crackles and flashing lights!

Looks like an end to the Golden weather is in sight, around the weekend.

Maybe golden in AK, cloudy more south and the weather in the BoP has been nothing but crap.

Mostly cloudy, 20c, light northwesterly at present :?

I'd quite like to see the profile of the cloudform moving towards the city from the west right now.. its inky black from below so there must be a lot of moisture there.. DP of 15 and temp 22 here..
The midday sounding shows it would probably only be up to about 2500m before the general inversion, could that trough cause any abberations to this?
love some expert opinions :) and where the thresholds for precipitation may be...

hi ya
its a sea breeze convergence, and I see now its fizzled
it started out over the coast here....
but the SWer pushed it over auckland...and there was rain out of it, heavy too over the titirangi area?
i could see the tops of the cloud system over manukua city.......good looking punchy cumulus....but no anvil...

I would say much of that cloud build up moving on to the City area now is caused by Sea breeze convergence in our west. I dont think the cloud tops are very high and the visible showers are probably more from cloud dissipation. :)

Have just seen your post Brian, you beat me to it.

Gidday guys,

Its really hot here as well...over 27C recorded on the farm and not a breath of breeze for most of the day...just started to pick up now...

Some dark rain clouds around, and boy, we could use some rain to recharge the roof tanks and freshen the pastures a bit!!! (farmers are never happy!)

I notice the Auckland Airport METAR is showiung showers in the vicinity, so I hope some get up this way! :)

Brian, hows the water on your farm looking? :?:
