Nothing much happening down south. There was a large Cb to the east at dusk and I went out to Fortification near Tokanui to have a look at it. Very impressive but no action or speherics.. Very warm and muggy here. Reminds me of those warm summer days I used to experinece in Taupo in my younger days.

The North Island sure has taken a hiding last night! Lightning everywhere on the tracker.
Canterbury is in the firing line for storms today so we'll see how that goes. I'm also interested in tomorrow for storms aswell as extremly cold air moves in to the upper levels (-30 / -32 500mb). I see tot tot in the 60's over Quite a good chunk of the SI. The winds aren't so favourable though, what's your opinion Tony?

Nice towers going up on the plains now, hope things hold off for a bit as I don't want thunderstorms this early in the day.

Probably not. You are right, the upper level conditions are favourable, but I'm not sure if there will be enough moisture in the lower levels. If it does go off, it will be one of the days when the CBs build on the foothills and blow across the Plains - keep your eyes on Mt Peel, and the Eyrewell forest area, and the Hanmer Basin for signs of activity late morning, and if its happening drive west!
