Just out to my west, constant thunder, black skies. I suspect the lightning detector is a little off in the north west - the strikes should be approx 25-40 km closer in.

I'm now going out on the deck to enjoy the show ;)

edit - visable lightning getting better

Cheers,

G

Yes, I see it on the detector!! Have a good one guy's! We may get something here as a convergence is forming but maybe not. I 'know' you've got thunderstorms now so looking foward to some cool reports!

yes yes yes, 2nd storm in 2 weeks.

Just driving home to west aucks and i thought i saw lightning, so i rung me mum in kaukapakapa and she told me that it had been going on for a while and also claimed a cloud burst!.

Heavy rain and winds are now overhead and the odd rumble can be heard

that a nice pic by the way GraemeWi.

Does anyone know which way this is heading?

4 pm radar suggests Kaipara is getting the most action.

Is it moving NW or NE?

It passed over us from west to east - heaps of heavy rain, lightning and thunder. Had some close hits - enough to make my ADSL modem drop offline...then thought it would be a good idea to unplug everything.

edit - just read the rain gauge, 9mm from the storm.

Good productive afternoon - nice storm, rain to fill the cracks in the garden, and I stood in a nest of hens eggs while I was on top of the hill taking pictures - bonus 6 eggs - hope there are no chicks inside or that will ruin my scrambled eggs tomorrow morning

I guess my decision to call of my trip to Darwin has paid off (I'd be threre right now if I could have got some more time off work)

Cheers,

G

Damn that was a good show. Looks as though it's over now, the last strike was about 10 mins ago, and loud. Was very close.

Bob Crowder of the NZTS went up to Auckland today for the Ellerslie Flower Show.
No doubt he would be very appreciative of the thunderous welcome that you Aucklanders put on for him today ;) :D
