The photo's look great.
Satellite shows strong Cbs off the top of the South Island heading North . Taranaki looks in line for Thunder and hail later today.

Cool photos.
Looking at midday soundings, cb tops possible to about 7500m in the north to 8500 about central NZ. The 500mb temp over Auckland is -26C.
Thats very cold, I would say -10 to -15C would be the norm for December. I would say snow to 1000m in the central North Island.
Frequent showers in Auckland city this afternoon.

Yes it's heading straight for us, but the model forecasts aren't predicting anything special...

Yes, cb's looking more active from late afternoon.
A big clap of thunder over my place about 4pm. Heavy shower of hail around 5pm with more rumbles. Hail stones 8mm. And yet more hail in the last 10mins.

Just had a nice heavy shower come through first bit of rain since midday been fine all afternoon. Southerly was strong too got some gusts of 45-50kmh. Clear again now with sunshine and not sure when the next shower is coming in.
I heard there was some Thunderstorms along the Plains today and of course the good ones that you guys are experincing in the NI so I hope you guys are having fun since it's been awhile since you have had some decent thunderstorms.
Some nice CB's this afternoon took some pics here's a few of them.
Cheers
JASON TIPPET.

Aaron and I went chasing yesterday afternoon/evening after seeing some activity on the tracker down near Mt Peel.
No lightning seen but quite a few good Cbs, lenticularis and 5-10mm hail.
Heavy shower of small hail here as I type this. Squally showers of rain/hail woke me up a few times overnight.
