It was weird today the upper wind looked N most of the time then around 930am we got a surface SW then it died away again-I thought it would get up to gale force but then it died away again-looking at the isobars but then it looked like we got "the nomans land weather" between the 2 highs and the westerly was furthur south :)

I was up here in Albany, waiting for the thunderstorms to roll in, but they never eventuated. The rain radar looked promising, i could see big cbs to the south, but it all just fizzled out. The rain radar no longer showed any signs of activity and th cbs stayed south.

There was the odd heavy shower about, including the north Shore up untill about 1.30pm and then the weather cleared. There was no thunder at Auckland but as you say, there was some quite large distant tops.

The next cold change(next week) will bring thunder.

Thanks for the report Brian,
The photos were taken from Western Springs looking into the southwest (in the direction of Manukau Heads).
