It must of been about 4 or 5 degrees today but not as cold as it used to be when I was a kid (remember skating on ice on the footpaths going to school) but the sun is out today which makes up for a cold night
Second coldest morning of the year in Hillmorton this morning, it was -3.3 at 06:30. Coldest morning so far has been -3.9 on the 18th. This could be bettered tonight.
Rather cool at the airport at 06:00 -5.1, coldest of any of the stations that data is available for at that time.
I got minus 5.5 in the end. I checked my screen at 7am just before I went to work and it was minus 5 then so it must of got a wee bit cooler just before sun-up. I'm not too sure of my lowest minimum, will have to check my diaries for that.
Ne blowing now well since noon so severity won't be as bad tonight.
A cold clear day with a max of 6.6, pressure is still high 1033mb so another good frost looks likely.
current temp @ 17:21 is 2.2
I bet you'll quickly drop below zero in Alexandra since the sun has gone down. By contrast, a northeast breeze here in Christchurch will probably prevent a repeat of this morning's big frost - if the breeze continues. About 6C at present.
The breeze must've died down, because we got another big frost this morning. Fourth biggie this month - means we probably won't end up with the mildest June on record, even if a good portion of the month has been unseasonably warm.
Official temps last night in Ashburton
Minimum air temp -4.2
Ground frost -8.8
Its keeping the plumbers busy around town.
Wont be as cold tonight, high cloud at present, northeast wind.
Cheers.
