Possible West Coast Twister? (More like a downburst)

Unread post by 03Stormchaser »

As in the The Press this morning:

Hokitika Business people are thankful no-one was around when a suspected twister howled up the main street early yesterday morning (05.01.04) Ron tompson feared his roof would peel off in the gust, which struck during pouring rain about 5:30am. "it was like a wind that grew in intensity to a siren. It was all over in 10 to 15 seconds but it was bloody scary," he said.

Twisters and small tornadoes occur irregulary along costal parts of the Weat Coast, usally during squally weather and rarely in summertime.

I would think this time, it is just a downburst.

Great that the 'm' word didn't get used. It makes me cringe everytime I hear it or see it.

I reckon next time it is used I'll write a letter addressed to the 'minieditor' of whatever news organisation involved.
