Re: US Storm Chasing 2011
Looks like the season is getting off to an early start, with a moderate risk setup a day or so ago and another for Arkansas/Missouri over the next 24 hours. Reed tweeted that SW Kansas may see some daylight action. Should be chasers streaming life at both Tornado Videos.net and Severe Studios sites.

Re: US Storm Chasing 2011
My Friend in Huntsville TN, had a Tornado greet his county yesterday (our this morning).
1 Person died as a result of being in a mobile home at the time it hit unfortunately.
His Lightning Detector detected 36000 CG flashes in this system today! Seems like a MCS!
My other Weather friend in Madison Alabama is preparing for full use of his underground tornado shelter this year

My U.S friends are preparing for a slight chance of tornadoes tomorrow.
Since so many have occurred on a slight risk they arnt taking any chances.
I will be watching there boltek's tomorrow and see the event pans out.

Re: US Storm Chasing 2011
The slight risk tomorrow is in Mississippi/Alabama which is known as Dixie tornado alley. They actually get as many tornadoes there than tornado alley but the chase country is not good. SPC reckon there is a 10% tornado prob, 30% large hail.
The slight risk is the standard severe weather outlook and in reality there is nothing slight about it. The term slight/moderate/high relate to severe thunderstorm coverage.

My friend said to me he has been hearing thunder for 22 hours now, with only a couple of breaks of about an hour between.
Man I want to go there to experience that

Re: US Storm Chasing 2011
My friend just emailed me (from Huntland, TN), hes now under a Severe T-storm Warning, with a storm to his north potentially producing Hail at Baseball size!!!!
As you can tell, hes getting nervous, as I would be in that situation.
Lightning Count is 587 Strokes per min atm.

Re: US Storm Chasing 2011
There is a big weather system affecting the midwest in the next couple of days. The US media are promoting it. I see SPC have a mod risk in their day3 outlook for the upper midwest. So the spring severe weather season is in full swing now. I have a hunch the traditional tornado regions such as Oklahoma/Texas will miss out this year while the upper midwest/northern plains will get hammered.

There is a bad drought in Texas and Oklahoma which doesn't bode well for the tornado season in those states.

Re: US Storm Chasing 2011
SPC got a mod risk out back in traditional better chase country, KS, OK and TX on thursday afternoon into the evening. Quick look over GFS I would think setting up somwere on I35 around Norman, before waiting to see what fires and then head east.NZstorm wrote:There is a bad drought in Texas and Oklahoma which doesn't bode well for the tornado season in those states.
