A couple of piccies attached from the Topeka Supercell, Kansas on 21 May 2011
Taken stills from the video camera.
The CG strike on the other two photo's is from Joplin Missouri during our escape from the devastating Tornado.

The Joplin clip is very exciting Rodalco. I heard your chat with Leighton Smith(ZB) a few days back.

Re: US Storm Chasing 2011
Thanks Radalco, the Joplin clip is very interesting given what happened to the town shortly after. I noticed someone near the start of the clip saying they were more concerned about large hail than a tornado. Looks like the power going off in Joplin may have helped you get out of town more quickly by turning off the traffic lights.

Re: US Storm Chasing 2011
always wanted to know, when they talk to Roger Hill on the radio, is it like, Roger Roger ?
thanks for sharing the clips
some of those storms in the last clip looked to be as frustrating as the ones we tried to coach into dropping a nado

Re: US Storm Chasing 2011
How many thunderstorms are over USA today?
I see the monsoon has fired up over Arizona. Some of the stormchase tour companies run tours for the Arizona monsoon. I guess its just lightning chasing.

Over 40,000 strikes recorded both today and yesterday within a 150km radius of Phoenix, their lightning tracker is interesting at timesNZstorm wrote:How many thunderstorms are over USA today?

Nice clip. Although it made out that Sean is the biggest in the chasing world, would think Reed has that title!Tornado Tim wrote:Heads up: U.S Tornado Segment on 60 Minutes on TV3 at 7.30 PM tonight!

Re: US Storm Chasing 2011
I saw the dodu. I've sort of lost interest in storm chasing, now, sadly
Too commercial with the tours, etc and these people having 'tanks' whatever to go into storms
Makes the Morris Minor seem very much humble in the times I've given chase

Great looking stuff!!NZstorm wrote:Roger Hill bagged several tornadoes in North Dakota yesterday.
slightly off topic but read this today from the NWS
Since May 26 no Oklahoma City daily maximum temperature has been below its normal maximum. There is no end in sight to the already-52-day stretch of significantly above normal temperatures

Re: US Storm Chasing 2011
Too early to start a new thread for 2012 so ill just plonk this in here. Ive penciled my name down for Roger Hills Close encounters tour for April 2012. Now ive just got to decide whether its worth the ~6 grand for 2 weeks trip to USA.
this dollar is helping a lot though.

yes, if our dollar can keep rising then that would be good for chasing. Aussies have it good with their exchange rate! I am hoping to chase 2012.
