My wife heard a slight rumble as she was inside doing some baking at the time. I see it on the drums but Geonet hasn't reported it yet, as of now.

They have finally reported it now after a couple of days. Just down the road in Jones Road.
Even though the drums are recording a few tremours/shakes, they are not coming up as actual reports.
Maybe things are dying off or building up to a big shake on the 31st, if you are using the "4 Theory" 8-o

Yes noted the Cass ones. Walked the Cass Lagoon track on the weekend and we were noting the 1990's Athurs Pass one, which was centered under the Lagoon Saddle

Looks like some activity on the Central City Faultline (the Boxing Day one) past couple of days, one 100m from Cathedral Sq this morning and a few others within 5km of the square.

Thanks to the Search map on QuakeCrowe, I see there was a Mag.2.9 at 12.20am today, near the Orari Gorge, within 25km of here. I'm deeply mistrustful of landforms like gorges and riverbeds now. Not to mention the lovely faultline at Montalto that shows in a visible sharp rise in the road. Always used to think it was just a rise in the road!

I had forgotten what a quake feels like its been quiet for the last week or so, just had a 4.4 magnitude centred behind Oxford on the Porters Fault i believe.
Long low rumble followed by a quick jolt.

And that Porters Fault is quite a long fault too,got to be a worry the amount of shakes in that area really

The Porters Pass Fault is 100km in length. It has a reoccurence rate of around 2000 years and last went off 500-700 years ago. Its generated quakes of 6.9 to 7.7 in the past. However, these types of smaller aftershocks happen often on the faults. We are just so much more aware due to whats happened over the past year or so.

I think its more to do with the fact the canterbury region with faults east of the foothills have been putting extra pressure on other faults in the foothills and even faults elsewhere in the south island.
Weve seen this with a few quakes in the foothills already where existing faults are, back in April there was a 5.2 on the porters fault and last month we seen a 4.8 on the Mt Somers fault.
After all the region is pushing north and with all our movement doesnt matter how minimal it will put extra pressure on other faults especailly those running north to south.
Once the quakes completly die off east of the foothills which i dont think will be for awhile yet, then our land will be the safest place to be for another thousand or so years.
I can only remember feeling 2 significant quakes in 2009 the fiordland 7.8 in july and a 4.2 near amberly in november, before that there was nothing until about 2004 from memory.

http://www.stuff.co.nz/the-press/news/c ... year-drops

one day has passed from a model's threshold and they go with the reduced probability?
would it not be prudent to wait a bit longer before coming out with that, or?

((The probability of a third major quake hitting Canterbury in the next year has dropped. )) i'm sure they mean a fourth major quake.Still a 90% of a 5 - 5.9 in the next year, bit of a worry

What gets me is the risk of a larger quake went up just after june 13th quakes not only for the month but also for the next year GNS mentioned this, now because we are having a lull period which i will point out happened in January they say this.
The best thing we can do is take each day as is because there is going to be more big jolts from time to time, perhaps by this time next year it would be safer to say we are out of the woods so to speak.

A bit of light jostle just after 11am here today.
No rumble but the handles on the dresser in the bedroom, rattled.

Made a good wobble here in Halswell with the speakers moving. What is with GNS now saying 23% chance of 6.0 to 7.9 quake. It was always 6.0 to 6.9. It better be a typo otherwise gns have some serious explaining to do.

Nice wee rumble and shake this morning at 2am. Located around Aylesbury Corner, so no wonder people in town didn't feel it as much as compared to the one yesterday morning at 1111am.

Yeah slept through that one John here.
Heres the video from the meeting on Friday with CERA and GNS etc, unfortunatly it looks like its not a typo with the up to 7.9.
I think thats more covering thier butts so to speak, i was reading in the press christchurch quake book on pages 80-81 about the faults in canterbury and theres potentially another simular fault to the greendale which could link up to the south of the Greendale.
But like any fault it could happen next month or next 100 years.

Geonet explained the 7.9 reading on facebook. Was talking about all existing faults in Canterbury. ie. Porters Pass. However, they said 6.0 much more likely than 7.9 end of scale and that 7.9 would not be an aftershock clearly a new event. I got the Christchurch press book and they make mention that similair faults to greendale could be about, but in North Canterbury area so further away from the city.

About time we got a 5 plus everyone i know has been waiting for it to release some pressure, might be a few 4 plus quakes today now seeing as it has been so quiet.
Looks like this one was on an offcut leaf fault from the greendale, centred close to Dunsandel.
It was a real womph to the house here jolted and rolled for about 10-12 seconds.

Did not wake for that one; however, as has happened before previous quakes, I heard/sensed low-pitched rumbling when I woke briefly around 2am and 4am. Don't want to sound ridiculous, but I was expecting something after hearing that.
