Re: Canterbury Earthquakes
Lasted 30+ seconds here which makes me think it was an unruptured area as they take longer than the aftershocks. I knew it was a decent one at a longer distance than normal. You get a feel for them. Intensity here was around a 4magnitude but i was clearly moving in my bed just laying there riding it out.

Re: Canterbury Earthquakes
I know what you mean, my ears were getting a feeling like they were at altitude yesterday afternoon. Weird...Orion wrote:Did not wake for that one; however, as has happened before previous quakes, I heard/sensed low-pitched rumbling when I woke briefly around 2am and 4am. Don't want to sound ridiculous, but I was expecting something after hearing that.

Good one here. Coupla jolts that lasted about 4 seconds. You could tell that it seemed to be local.

Re: Canterbury Earthquakes
Another rumble at a quarter to eight this morning around the same area as the jolt yesterday morning.
Long rumble with hardly any shaking probably why it was a 4.3M.

we had another CHCH earthquake victim stay in the family bach..mother and daughter
a few weeks ago..., for a couple of weeks...for free...
they did not tell us they had a dog...which then had puppies....so they had the heaters going 24 hours a day...the windows were dripping with condensation on the inside...
just under a 400$ power bill has come in....oh well...thats our contribution....

Geez thats an outrageous abuse of your kindness and charity. I hope I speak for the rest of us ChCh folk here in expressing my dismay in people who take the goodwill of others over a bridge too far.Manukau heads obs wrote:we had another CHCH earthquake victim stay in the family bach..mother and daughter

they did clean the place up before the left, so that was OK
what I think she is doing is taking the advantage of people that did offer accom.
as she had jotted down all the contact numbers before they expired from the original trade me promotion list
and is now going around the country using those, ever since...

Well there are always those that abuse the system, good on you for allowing people to stay with you Brian. But i do think that anyone now still looking for a free night is just like the example you just posted, free loaders

Quite a few little earthquakes around the ChCh area over the last few days along the usual faults.

Re: Canterbury Earthquakes
First felt earthquake for a while felt here today at about 10:40am. Only 3.6M /11kms deep, near Springs Road.
I see there has only been about 5 recorded shakes over the last few days. Looks as though they are easing, at last.

Re: Canterbury Earthquakes
I see there was a 3.6 quake near Ashburton. http://www.geonet.org.nz/earthquake/qua ... -maps.html
Interesting, isn't this well south of the main Canterbury fault lines?

^ There's been a couple of other reported quakes near Ashburton since the big-one ... a M4.3 two months ago and a M4.1 on Oct 1. Bit more info from the Ashburton Guardian here.

Re: Canterbury Earthquakes
It seems Saturday mornings jolt has kicked all the faults back into gear again, seems abit odd how it was origionally 4.6 then down to 4.2 then down to 4.1 goes over my head some of the stuff that comes through from Geo Net and thier replies.
The other thing thats caught my eye is why are geo net all of a sudden posting small 2's, like 2.2 and 2.4 barly felt quakes when they hardly ever post these smaller quakes its normally quake live that does.
Seems to me they are watching some areas around heightend times.

Re: Canterbury Earthquakes
I think as the aftershocks are decreasing in intensity and frequency they may have reduced the level required for them to report them.
Or maybe they were shallower and more likely to be felt despite the lower relative magnitude?
Personally I'm glad it's returned to a more normal level of aftershocks, I was getting concerned it had started building up to something again.

Re: Canterbury Earthquakes
Yes, we had a period of where there was no aftershocks, last WE, but it seems that the 'reshocking' from that period has only built up into some 'minor' quakes that only register up to 4 or so, mostly below, on the richter scale.
This is showing the trend of earthquakes here, sort of, dying out.

its easy to predict earthquakes in areas that are getting regular aftershocks
