Re: US Storm Chasing 2011
Just watched the first Episode of Season 5 of storm chasers, covering the outbreak of April 27.
It still shocks me of the shear amount of tornadoes that were on the ground at the same time.
Very good footage of the tornadoes that occurred in Mississippi.

The observed upper air sounding from Birmingham, central Alabama on April 27th 6pm. An incredible sounding. The CAPE is 2944 but its the wind fields that were amazing.

Re: US Storm Chasing 2011
The soundings always show knots. There is a SSW low level jet steam undercutting a WSW upper level jet. That cross over of the winds is what creates supercells/tornadoes.Is that 85 to 90 knots or are they using some other scale?

I so like this seasons Storm Chasers - Without Josh, the new format concentrating on Dominator, TIV & Twistex is a considerable improvement.

Agreed, much better format than previous seasons. Only oddity is what Tim alluded to, the dates of the chases so far, I guess most people dont care but for those that follow weather it seem very strange.

Doh, I haven't yet found a source for Stormchasers S05E03 in 720p that doesn't want money or details I'm not prepared to give. SD it is.

Re: US Storm Chasing 2011
On that occasion the lexan(?) Bullet Proof glass had too much wind pressure on it when he tried to put it up and it wouldn't come up. Subsequently you saw the normal car window implode.Richard wrote:what a machine
didn't say any thing about the windows which was a weakness last year when it smashed,ya wonder if they don't use bullet proof glass,or have they??

Yeah, the adverts showing the window breaking are frequent, but the actual event showed quite clearly the attempts to get the outer up, but it got stuck.

The latest Show demonstrates that Reed is actually quite an a-hole when it comes to differences of opinion.

Re: US Storm Chasing 2011
SPC have a severe risk for western Oklahoma Texas tomorrow.
A bit unusual to see that prediction for Oklahoma in November. That'll get the storm chasers out.ALL FACETS OF SEVERE WEATHER
WILL BE POSSIBLE...INCLUDING LARGE HAIL...DAMAGING WINDS...AND
TORNADOES...INCLUDING RISKS FOR A STRONG TORNADO GIVEN THE
INCREASINGLY LARGE/ELONGATED HODOGRAPHS THAT ARE EXPECTED ACROSS THE
WARM SECTOR BY MONDAY AFTERNOON/NIGHT.

The 1995 movie 'Twister' predicted the future of storm chasing, with a team chasing for the money.
