No i dont think it will, this cold air is trapped within the Amuri basin and would take a reasonable wind to flush it out.
Its now 1 deg >_<

Edit: now zero

High of only 3 degrees here today after some high cloud moved in trapping the cold air.
Frost still thick in shaded areas.

Down to 1.6 at the airport despite a NE breeze. Looks like a nice band on the West Coast at the moment. Bit of a boring weather period ahead for us.

Hasn't managed to replace the cold air here yet, interesting bit of weather really, last evening i would had thought it would had snowed seeing it was -1deg when the front came over, instead it rained,so obversely there was a warmer layer of air above, now that rain is frozen, i suppose you could say that's about as close to an ice storm as you could get in this country.

"Ice storm" was the expression that I wondered about last night too: maybe someone has a definition?
around 10.30pm we had what I can only describe as slowly-falling ice - faster than snowflakes, slower than hail, no rain with it, and it seemed clear, not white like that graupel stuff.
The temp. had warmed up then from about -1.0 (when I'd been expecting a good frost) to +0.4.
At the moment here it's 0.2 and I don't see any stars.

There must have been a thicker warm air layer above here because they were just stock standard raindrops, but then froze and became a real effort to get the car door open this morning

From good ol' wikipedia...
Ice storm
An ice storm is a type of winter storm characterized by freezing rain, also known as a glaze event or in some parts of the United States as a silver thaw. The U.S. National Weather Service defines an ice storm as a storm which results in the accumulation of at least 0.25-inch (0.64 cm) of ice on exposed surfaces...

This morn's T-Storm update still looks reasonbly promising for the west coast and upper parts of NZ later today...
MetService - Severe Thunderstorm Outlook

Valid to: Midnight Monday 18 Jun 2012
Issued at: 8:41am Monday 18 Jun 2012

A front sweeps eastwards across much of the country today while an associated low becomes slow moving west of the South Island. Thunderstorms have been active over the Tasman Sea this morning with a trough following the front, and these are expected to move onto western areas of central New Zealand this afternoon.

The highest risk of thunderstorms today is anticiapated for coastal Waitomo and Taranaki, also northwest Nelson and in the north and east of Northland this afternoon. In these places, storms have the potential to bring bursts of heavy rain reaching 25mm/hr and strong wind gusts around 100km/hr. Additionally, one or two small tornados are also possible in coastal places, but if any eventuate they will only affect very localised areas. As the weather system moves east, a moderate risk of storms (with similar phenomena) spreads to Auckland and Coromandel late afternoon or early evening, then to Bay of Plenty at night.

Farther south, a moderate risk of thunderstorms also includes the Marlborough Sounds, Nelson, Buller and Westland this afternoon and evening both with the front and with bands of heavy showers spiralling around the low and onto the South Island this evening. Any storms in these areas may boost rainfall rates into the 10-20mm/hr range and produce strong wind gusts around 100km/hr.

Finally, another trough approaches the west of the North Island tonight as the upper levels continue to cool. This is likely to result in heavy showers and a moderate risk of isolated thunderstorms spreading onto western areas tonight.

For the east and south of the country, no thunderstorms expected.

I managed to find ice yesterday evening left over from the morning frost.
