I am adjacent to Grafton Bridge, looking across Grafton Gully towards Akld City. No lightning activity but a spectacular sky, with black clouds swirling in all directions.

It is so black and dark to the north. I've just been outside doing a quick spot of maintenance on the drains and dragged all the orchids under cover.

I see that an Emirates 777 has just gone around at Auckland and is now heading out into the gulf to wait it out.

He has been up to Silverdale and is now heading back towards Hunua for an approach to the other runway. Sky getting lighter in the city. No thunder heard here, just very heavy rain.
I take it all back, hes climbing looking like a diversion, heading south.

Re: General July Weather
Torrential rain here at Auckland uni, this would be some of the heaviest I have seen. Would estimate 40mm at least in the last hour, still bucketing down.

Just looked at the above webcam and was baffled to see the view of the city obliterated by a torrent of rain.

Re: General July Weather
Certainly a good rain storm here, plenty of surface water and even some small hail mixed in the rain, Greylynn showing 34.6mm for the hr.
Very dark skies before the rain hit, photo.

Nice photos.
The afternoon downpour was a bit like a summer storm but no thunder!
Surface flooding near where I was working in Epsom today.
