Re: General July Weather
Apparently the fog was still around at 11am here, unusual for it to last that long

General July Weather
Got a high of 8.6 with thick fog and fog all day. Never saw the outline of the sun. At 5pm the fog really came back down and it's pea soup out there again. Dam cold with that wind too.
I hope it's not like this tomorrow night cause no one will be able to watch the chiefs wallop the crusaders.

Re: General July Weather
High of 8.3°C here, and as Jamie said, fog nearly all day.....
It lifted to around 20m AGL around here in the mid afternoon so it looked like low cloud but then started to lower as the temp dropped.
So a lovely overcast foggy day

Fog here again. I noticed it was back when I looked out the window at 11pm last night, thought the light SW breeze overnight might have cleared it

Looking forward to the NW flow developing later this week. Looking like a whole week of wet weather for the West Coast of the South Island.

GFS accumulated rainfall for the next 8 days.
The rain comes into the west of the SI from Friday by the looks.

Wow...!
Jetboat grounded as Shotover freezes
SUE FEA IN QUEENSTOWN
Last updated 05:00 10/07/2012
The worst big freeze in almost 20 years has left parts of the Shotover River frozen solid, metres across, keeping jetboat operators off the water for almost record periods.
The river has been choked with ice, making it too dangerous for boats to operate because of the risk of large chunks of ice getting sucked into the jet units, causing power and steering to fail.
Ngai Tahu Tourism southern region jetboating manager Clark Scott said until 2pm yesterday Shotover Jet was getting close to its 1994 record of 11 consecutive days not operating because of ice. The big red boats finally got back on the water for two hours after a frustrating eight-day hiatus.
Last week was traditionally one of Queenstown's two busiest winter weeks, the first week of the school holiday. The company normally carries hundreds of passengers a day during that week, so the ice represented some big losses, but Mr Scott would not say how much.

Re: General July Weather
^ Not surprising really.
As David pointed out earlier, up until Saturday morn, Queenstown Aero had recorded 8 consecutive nights with minima lower than -6.0C (lowest being -7.7C), and daytime temps haven't been more than 6C since.
I think Queenstown Aero's previous record, since records began in 1969, was 6 consecutive nights with minima lower than -6.0C, set in July 1996 (although June 1992 would've been 9 consecutive nights, had one night not managed only -5.5C
