It didn't get that cold here, but the rain certainly had 'that look' about it at times.

Havoc may await with this one

EC deterministic(wow). The ensemble is slightly higher and slightly less aggressive.

GFS deterministic agrees… again the ensemble is slightly less bullish

Either way it is projected a very impressive system

Just an update on previous post re NZ… models for early next week

Access Global has a 980hpa system crossing effectively between the north and south Islands.

http://www.bom.gov.au/australia/charts/ ... ndex.shtml

What is interesting is that EC is more bullish and further to the south ensemble wise while GFS is predicting a mild swipe at the top end of the north island.

The deterministic is effectively the control/median.

EC deterministic

GFS deterministic

Should hear thunder over the upper North Island next week given the disturbed pattern and cold upper air

A wetter July this year compared to 2011, temperature was on par with last year however:

Note that the record sunshine quoted for Queenstown in July (and also June) is very misleading, as the numbers come from new equipment at Queenstown Aero, with a much better exposure than at the town site (whose numbers are still there, and are not record-breaking by any means, though that is not helped by deterioration in exposure in recent years).
