Quite often you can remember what the weather was like on days where some historic event has happened, like -9/11 lovely clear spring day working in Lees Valley.
Could be a semi-interesting day today with heavy showers later, whats the chances of thunder i wonder

Just had a brief hail shower. No rain, no wind. Just a few 8-10mm hail stones.

Some good booming thunder in last half hour, plus a couple of visible lightning flashes, and some brief bursts of heavy rain. Also saw what looked like a rope cloud about 5km north of here, but by the time I got my phone and went upstairs to get a picture, it had disintegrated.

Yes. There are CB forms coming out from the west to just to the north of TC.Red blobs and even some white ones on the radar, so significant precipitation must be coming out of them. No thunder or lightning. Quite sunny here and clear to the south with a light SE blowing.

Just one long rumble of thunder about half an hour ago from the Cb that passed from the west to north of here.
The photo was processed with maximum "clarity" in lightroom to bring out the mammatus structure.

A couple of weak CBs, one to the north and one to the south of TC at the moment
Probably fray-out before they get here

Another brief burst of hail, but smaller stones 5-7mm, and plenty of rain with them. Still some thunder happening.

Some small hail stones up at work for awhile, and some stones falling as i arrived home.
I havnt heard any thunder though wind is currently NE, when is this trough meant to come up? and is it coming up with a southerly?.
It does say early evening on the thunder charts, interesting how most of the activity is actually more inland than it suggests it should be on the charts.
Edit. looks as though the main trough is still just about ready to cross South Canterbury, so should be worth while a chase once things get developing again soon.

Isolated thunderstorm currently active just south of Rakaia, decent hail markings on the latest rain radars.

Beaut storm still sitting around Rakaia has slowed down and the back end is quite intense, i pressume this is where the lightning is coming from on the trackers.
Aaron and Mike are out there, abit far for me to go when the storm could jump across to the penninsula by the time i get there.
See what develops outside the wind change/storm cell .
