I bought the Telegraph when I was in the UK last year, only because it had Christchurch in World cities temperatures and also it had a decent weather map for the UK and Europe, not like the other newspapers. :-)

It mentions dropping soot into the freezing cloud tops of hurricanes to warm them up and therefore reduce wind speed and even divert them away from major cities.

That sounds interesting. There is also the potential problem of lawsuits from people who would be affected by any diverted storm.

How would such a process go against mid latitude depressions and complex troughs of low pressure that NZ would experience such as the one that is about to hit us?
