Looks to be a short sharp flick from the south with different reports pointing to snow maybe 300m for Canterbury. Tonight and again on sunday. Thoughts people??

Looks like cold air on Sunday but next to no moisture for Canterbury. Down to 3.6c here currently with rain so probably snowing down to 400-500m on the hills.

2.8C in Rangiora with a little sleet, bit of a surprise really but the temps dropped quick in the last 30mins.

Consider dewpoint temperature, snowflake size and the temperatures aboveTalbotm wrote: Any info would be helpful But how come sometimes its snows at warmer temps and then at colder temps it doesnt snow at all.

That Norwegian weather-site mentioned snow, and accurate temperatures for the day, for this area... I have no idea of the source of their information.Talbotm wrote:Who saw this coming?? I know its not significant but hey snow is snow lol

Been looking at this cold surge for a couple of days, looks good for snow to sea level in Canterbury at the moment on the last run with the magic 522 line over the top of us. Too early to call yet though, give it a few more runs

Re: lowish level snow for canterbury 14th July
Personally I like how sharp the 850mb temperature is at -9C which is enough to bring those freezing levels down regardless of the fluctuating THK levels.
Wont be that much for the city if any falls to sea level but North Canterbury and Marlborough could see abit more.

Some sleet above about 300m at Hilltop, but only light showers. (also saw abit of sleet earlier this evening hitting a bus windscreen in central Chch)

Im not sure how this compares to other snow events as ive only just found this webcam but it looks like a very decent snow fall up the desert road summit.

The summit of the Desert Road is a greater altitude http://www.waymarking.com/waymarks/WM4H ... ew_Zealand
than that of Arthur's Pass

which I have observed some people [not forum members!] to discount when commenting on road-closures etc.
That's serious snow in the photo - thankyou!
