Porting to a Dedicated Local Server

Unread post by Tornado Tim »

Hi All,
As some of you know, I have always wanted to port the Blitzortung system directly to Oceania (So strike processing can be done here).

As the Blitzortung System expands there is a larger weight being put onto our friends in Germany. Particularly on 2 people there. In order to fix this, I think the Blitzortung systems should be split by geographical region.
This is a primary reason why I want to port the Blitzortung Oceania System (The processing server ect) to be hosted here.

This way it frees up our friends in Germany.

I am in discussions with Egon on this topic and how we should proceed.

In the meantime, I think we should discuss porting the system over here and what IT infrastructure is needed etc.
Also we need to discuss funding. As all of the servers in Germany are funded by Ad's and people donating etc.

Personally I think we need a dedicated Server and use it as a VPS (Virtual Private Server), so we can split tasks per virtual machine.

Another thing we need to formalize an Administration type structure if this was to proceed.
I would continue to be the Blitzortung Oceania Administrator.
The people to help me out if I am unavailable still needs to be figured out.
Ricky still makes the Boards, but I am not sure on progress on Board making now due to Green PCB's not being made anymore due to system RED's being made now.

OK lets put our heads together and lets take this Network to next level :)

Best Regards

Tim
