Which English Do You Speak?
A fascinating quiz here:
http://www.gameswithwords.org/WhichEnglish/
For what it's worth, its top three dialect guesses for me were English, Scottish and Welsh.
All my grandparents were born in NZ in the 1880s so I think the results show the power of ancestral dialects and idioms continuing over generations.
Modern mass media exposure may alter that nowadays.

Re: Which English Do You Speak?
For me it picked Scottish (correct), N Irish then Australian for dialects but a "native language" of Finnish then English then Turkish!
I know that Scots often use a different word order compared to other English speakers - I'd say "I turned out the light" instead of "I turned the light out".

My wife hed a go as well and she was offended by their comments so she wrote to them saying that here in NZ we have basically an English response to the English language rather than the Australians who tender to drop the letter 'u' in words like Labour, etc.

Re: Which English Do You Speak?
Which is true. Although I am Christchurch born, most of my life has been spent on the West Island.
My ancestors are of Scottish descent, my roots are in Canterbury but I am still blasted as a bastardised Australian.. which works well for me! I can pretend to be both & really mess some people up for my own humor.
At the end of the day, I have 3 dialects.. English, Maori... and obscene. They work for me
