Gales/heavy rain northern regions - July 8-12
Looking like a significant wind event on the cards for the north. Gales likely as far south as north Waikato.
Heavy rain over eastern Northland with flood potential up there.

Very good model agreement on this one. They all have stong winds and heavy rain down to auckland city up until Wednesday morning. None of the models show it moving further south than that though.
It could be a wild night for some on tuesday night

Rain-wise it looks like an eastern Northland only event. GFS shows not so much for Coromandel or Auckland.
Here is the rain accumulation chart for the next 4 days.

Unfortunately the thunderstorm risk with this system will stay over the top of Northland.

Yes, I was going to say not another weather system to the north of the country.
Makes weather down here not very interesting, but what do you expect with weather patterns?
This La Nina is very persistent and I wish it would totally go away?

We might get lucky in Auckland and have the worst of the wind blow over the top of us.

I see winds in the Waitemata have just hit gale-force, with gusts over 70 km/h, while Tiritiri is gusting to nearly 90 km/h.

Metservice forecast suggests a wet few days ahead for Auckland, even though GFS isn't showing much rain accumulation.

Ukmet brings the front south with scattered rain developing in Auckland this evening and some more persistent rain tomorrow morning.David wrote:Metservice forecast suggests a wet few days ahead for Auckland, even though GFS isn't showing much rain accumulation.
But eastern Northland is where the heavy falls will be.

Gusting up to 59 km/h in Howick, with 7mm rain in the last few hours.
It's looking likely today will break my record for highest wind run.

Yes I just noticed the airport is reporting 85 km/h gusts, I'm surprised it's so much higher than what Howick is getting.Manukau heads obs wrote:Wond ramping up across the region now after the first frontal band through

Where does one find the Tiritiri data? I'd be interested in following that, if it's freely available.
It's fairly gusty here in Glenfield. Stuff blowing around the street, bush roaring behind the house, but so far not as bad as the last event. Nothing is shaking. Should I add "yet" to that statement?
