Yes, but the last 2 thunderstorm scenarios for Canterbury have been proved fruitless :(

I'm free after 3:30pm if anything does indeed looking interesting to chase. Would be a nice Mackenzie country chase I think, very large area of instability inland.

I see by the 8.03pm update that the MS have broadened the moderate risk now into Marlborough and over a greater area of Otago, still the low risk of severe risk at this stage.

Not so promising this morning, but you never know.
A moist, light-wind situation is expected over the South Island and southern North Island this afternoon.

Daytime cloud buildups are expected over much of the South Island with scattered heavy showers and thunderstorms inland from about midday. The thunderstorms are most likely near the Southern Alps, the Nelson ranges and inland Otago ranges as shown on the chart. As these thunderstorms are likely to be slow-moving there is a low risk of severe thunderstorms producing intense downpours. The thunderstorms should ease in the evening.

About inland Central Hawkes Bay there is also a low risk of thunderstorms developing during the afternoon and easing in the evening. These thunderstorms amy be accompanied by localised heavy rain.

Not convinced on today. Any thunderstorms that happen will be in foothills id imagine. But judging by the cloud cover id expect simula conditions inland witch would put a lid on chances anyway
