Cooled down a bit from today's high of 31.2C earlier this afternoon, now that a bit of a NE is blowing and high cloud cover is moving across us at the moment.

Very warm afternoon here. A sun/cloud mix this morning gave way to mainly blue skies this afternoon. Max temp 26.5°C, dewpoints 17-18.

Max here was 26C but with a rather sticky 18C dewpoint

Should be some very warm temp/dewpoint combinations over the North Island on some days next week.

I got 32.5 in the screen at 4.00 ,but higher humidity today than on previous hot days which made it rather uncomfortable.

I see Pukaki Aero got up to around 35C yesterday. Not quite as hot as last Sunday's 35.7C, along with NIWA's 36.2C at Leeston and 35.6C at Waiau.

25.9C here yesterday. 8)

The coast has certainly been the place to be the last few days, plenty of swimming & sunburnt faces around the show.. a wee drop of rain would be nice for the gardens though. Have some high cloud thickening here this morning but not really expecting much from it, this front seems to be slowing up somewhat.

Seems to be a deep low brewing up north at the end of the week, maybe some gales in Northland ? More likely to move east with the upper wind flows. Unfortunately this disturbance will limit any major pm convection happening in the N I [shallow slow moving lows best]

I think end of the week for northern NZ will be warm and humid/ possible showers

Eastern NI ranges may see some heavy showers Tuesday in a humid airmass.

Another sunny warm day here, 25C/dewpoint 17C

Would prefer your outcome spwill, done only one chase this season, nothing this side of the Kaimai forcefield for a few months now. Great beach weather though so cruise liners and melanoma chasers happy.

GFS is flip flopping quite a bit on low level moisture and wind convergence atm. Will have to see forecasts firm up over the week.
Anyway it looks at this stage just showers, upper levels are too warm to get decent electrical activity.

Even when when Waikato had the convergence showers and isol T-storms last week, the upper level was -14*C, forecasts suggesting much warmer temps this week at -8*C!
For a setup to generate storms at that temp, we would need very high temps and theta-e values (might as well be Darwin/Queensland in that case).

Of Note: GFS is picking some quite high temps this week in the Waikato (26*C+), to which its usually quite conservative when temps are concerned.

Back on 20th January 1999 there was a Thunderstorm event over Northland Auckland with 500mb temps -8C. Pukekohe had 160mm in just over 2 hours. But such an event has not been repeated since. The surface dps where 22C.

Hopefully the patchy rain in Canterbury can stay clear of the cricket.

Yes, some useless light patchy rain here this afternoon not enough to wet the ground.

Given that NZ looks to be sliding to defeat at present, some rain might not be a bad thing at all.

Cite me a reliable reading from anywhere in NZ of 250mm in 2 hours - considering the cited NZ record for 1 hour is only 134mm at Cropp River ...

it was only a 'Farmers Rain Gauge"
but when you saw the damage from the flash flooding...trees ripped out of gullies, fences buried under metres of silt, whole hill sides slipped away, you could understand then how much rain fell in such a short time
I recorded 150mm in 1.5 hours ...but 5 minutes up the road it was even heavier (as evident by more numerous slips)
