I remember that, was in mid taranaki, constant deep rumbles and flashes for 3-4 days straight day and night, (from east or north-east?) although it may have been 2011, wouldn't have been 2012

would be interesting to look back and see what that setup was like.

will be on the edge of this arvos moderate risk area =D>

I've noticed the SST's getting up there for a while now, Brian.. could make things interesting in the next couple of months.

NCEP - (that produces the GFS ) is switching from the old gen of the model to a new high res model tomorrow (the 14th of Jan).
If the website you visit regularly for weather models breaks then this is probably why.....

The data format is quite different and as a result all parsers need to be re-written to a certain extent.

Nice and warm today with a High of 28.2*C :)

A proper SW flow can and often does produce a temperature gradient across Auckland with the airport getting lower numbers. But it all happens in reverse with a NE flow ofcoarse.

Do seem to notice a lot of regional temp variation mainly in summer here as well, the nearest MS recording station at Culverden can be slightly warmer when the high pressure winds blow from the south but on other days like yesterday with a NE wind, it was 4deg warmer here.

The last month has been pretty damn great weather-wise over this side of the hills. Average max for the last 31 days is 26.8°C, with only 1 day below 20°C and that was when we had 36mm of rain to keep the farmers happy.

2015 has started off nicely too, with no rain since the 1st (a station Jan record), and the temps have been very consistent. Since the 2nd through to the 14th the daily highs have been in the range of 27.3°C to 28.9°C every day except one, when it reached 30.3°C.
The forecasts have had rain coming for a wee while now, but they've all fizzled out. Looks like we'll get a bit this weekend, which will be welcome.
