Bring back Jim!!

Unread post by C-Nimbus »

is it me, or does watching the weather forecast on the news have zilch appeal now.

Apparently (I have a friend who works in TVNZ) the lastest guy on one news (Brendon ?) used to be a radio dj and has no interest in the weather whatsoever!!

I dunno about you but listening to him makes me feel like I am being sold amway or filter queen or granton cards or some cheap door to door kinda salesmen......its just not cricket!

TV3 for me, well, i dont like the graphics and they also don't do a sat image (animated) for what happened that day. TV1 do and often you can see the thunderstorms develop on that image, which is cool.

But anyway thats my gripe, I liked Jim (and even augie was better than what we have now, although he coudn't say the word "Invercargill"). I liked his sense of humour and the fact that he did know what he was talking about.

any thoughts?

Any day that Karen is on is soooo much better. Even Karen Rutherford can do a good presentation but Brendon
Seems he reads the script and takes the cheque on the way out :!:

I normall fill in the details myself but I pity anyone who is looking for reasonable detail in the forecast.

I really haven't taken much interest in the TV One /TV3 weathers since Jim and Augie left.
I now regard the TV's weather as just as people relaying information from MetService. The WeatherGirl/Weather Boy Scenario to attract viewers.
Anyway, I don't really care now as long as they relay the information to the multitudes. They are not interested in whether the person is a meteorologist or not. I have known of people who have watched Toni March on TV3 for the duration of the forecast and have not known what the weather is going to be
TVOne still annoys me though as they STILL don't show where the max and mins are, after all these years

I think there is much better info on the Net rather than relying on the weather at the end of the news, especially if you want graphic detail.
I think that the TV people are gearing up towards that, or so it may seem.
I'm glad that mumsy Kay Gregory is not on TV weather now although she could make a return.
I get annoyed at non-weather related news items in the weather segment as well, like some children riding a new Noddy train in an amusement park somewhere or some cyclist riding down hill in a new car-park that opened somwhere ...whatever

Jim did have some qualifications in meteorology of which I am not sure.
These were acheived during his time as TVOne's weather presenter.
He had his pilots licence as well

Agreed, One Weather was the best of the TV weather reports. Unfortunately Brendan has well and truly ruined it. He`s so awkward. Never mind his lack of knowledge, he`s there as a presenter but he`s hopeless at it. He should stick to hospital radio!

Bring back Jim indeed. Incidentally as a PPL you need a good basic knowledge of the effects of frontal systems and how to interpret MSLP and situation statements. Studying for my PPL was how I became (seriously) interested in meteorology.

Cheers

LOL @ Ralston & Brendon....

I can't believe they dumped Hickey for Gregory... and now she's presenting Breakfast with idiotic Paul Henry who hurt Hamilton a lot in his comments.... Kay was not impressed and she dressed him up in waikato colours! lol, pc gone mad the next week as they showed how great Hamilton was..

Anyway TVNZ and Ralston really have ****** things up with shooting down Hickey, Long and April Bruce (though she wasn't all that good)

I can't stand that Rutherford or Brendon, it seems sometimes as if Bailey rolls her eyes in the background

I can't stand at all stand Toni Marsh on TV3... I hate it when she says "lets take a look upstairs" and the isobaric map appears, when in reality it's happening below her, (apart from fronts etc)

The only people that do a good job on tv is Karen (who has matured a lot) and that guy (unsure of the name) on TV3...

I'm still undecided on a career so who knows... you may have some gangly 6'7" dutch guy on there

Yup,

Thats the funniest thing i've heard today.......Noddy Train!!

Spot on with the non-related stories.

Steven W, yes i think he did have some qualies and I have heard of the pilot thing before.

I reckon Aaron J should have a crack......seems to have a nice bubbly personality and knows his stuff!

Just read foggy's reply...

Yes you should apply to TVNZ

Just say that you are Shift manager at Burger King and are looking for a change.

Also say that your previous knowledge of weather was when you went to your uncles farm and wethered some sheep (sp?)

But seriously it would be nice to see some1 from this forum take on the challenge...Ricky, you do broadcasts dont you? and you dont stutter or pause when your on the radio.

So lets vote!!!

lol Gary.

Thanks for the vote of confidence C-nimbus but I'll have to decline at the moment....I however put full support in Foggy becoming a presenter!!!! That would be awsome!

In defence of Brendon he is new and there will be some nerves doing what he does for an initiall bit but if things don't click they don't click I guess. When Jim signed off they showed some footage of him when he started presenting the weather a while back and he wasn't like he was in his later years doing the job. Perhaps others could say what Jim was like when he started as I can't remember back that far....But he was good and it's a shame he's gone, best weather presenter ever! And Augie should be back to. The best presenter I've seen come into the job with no nerves and looked like he had been doing it for years is that guy from one news who does sport, can't remember his name. Not Neil Waka, not Tony Viech, the other guy with blond hair.

They are probably thinking, "Well, you guy's all wanted a male weather presenter, what more do you want?" We want Foggy is the responce! Or someone who has some enthusiasm towards the weather and a bit of knowledge. Remeber the west coast got those fhone SE's not long ago, Brendon said they're getting the first taste of the high that was moving in, not really. But I'm probably being picky.

I did apply for weather presenter on TVOne a few years back.
They sent all the forms but you had to move to Auckland which I would never do in a million years unless I got horribly drunk or something...
