I thought I saw a blue flash of light 10pm, then a rumbling sound like distant thunder around 10.15

Didn't see the flash but heard the noise. Sounded odd, like someone was running up the wooden stairs outside the house and onto the deck. Wish I'd seen the light show as well.

Sounds if there were multiple ones or one original and then falling over a large area

Saw it also in Cambridge. Single bright blue flash observed from the car I was a passenger in. No associated sound.

I was expecting a boom for about 20 secs after but heard nothing but I did have traffic noise along Mt Eden Road.
Obviously the boom was going to come much later than 20 secs with that distance :>

It looked like a giant fast moving comet with a bright finish, it would have been even more spectacular away from the City lights

reports that it was a loud sonic boom in Thames also...as in south auckland..Pukekohe/waiuku ..and here...so that makes it crossing from east to west from thames to here..and out into the tasman... :)
seems that you needed to be right underneath it to get the best sonic boom...

Both myself and my wife noticed the flash from our lounge in Manukau. Very bright blue flash. Didn't hear anything until quite a few minutes later when there was a distant sounding rumble, so not sure if that was an associated noise. For those that heard something, was that straight away or was there a substantial delay?

a delay of over a minute..up to 2 minutes

I see the M/S had put up a rain radar image to show there was no thunderstorms...but it also contained an inteference line going north from east cape..which is often there..now so called experts are saying that it landed out in the pacific as per the M/S image..yeah right

Saw the flash through a window and heard a distant low rumble a few minutes later (in Glenfield). At the time I checked Twitter to see if anyone was reporting an electrical storm, as the flash was blue-white like lightning.

I think that lightning-tracker/rain-radar image was originally tweeted by Akld Civil Defence, then retweeted onto MS's page, which MS later removed. CD since say it was just to prove there was no lightning, but why on earth would they chose that particular image with obvious radio interference pointing directly to the Mahia radar. #-o

In the General February Weather thread Richard wrote:
So how loud was the boom compared to say thunder?
it was like loud thunder, but was different...was a sound you dont normaly here...it like got loud quickly..like it was arriving...and then it was like an explosion type sound then a few pops/thuds then that was it..alll over
the windows rattled...
that was my experience (I was at a BOT meeting at our local primary school...and we all like...what the heck was that...we thought something had exploded somewhere...and it was like something had hit the roof)
it was like that video in Russia where that guy was filming the smoke trail then the shock wave hit...but not as severe as that

What I saw was the like the meteor in Russia in 2013 but not as big and long lasting, a ball of bright light with a tail moving across the sky and then a brighter flash but it was behind some cloud at that stage.
