Have seen quite a bit of distant lightning, down towards Levin/Kapiti Coast way, in the last hour. It has just quietened down in the last 20 mins. I am hoping it will move closer to Palmy, but looking at the radar, it's moving in a SSE direction.

Models showing shortwave crossing the North island tomorrow morning with thunder possible including West Auckland. For Auckland 500mb -21C with lapse rates modeled at 7C and we should still have moisture so looks positive.

Yes, a generally wet day over Canterbury today with substantial rain over the plains, this afternoon, the first this year for something substantial like this. Interesting to see rainfall totals for today over the region.

Models showing 500mb temp -25C tomorrow morning for Auckland. Also deep layer lapse rates 7.4C. Should be worth a rumble of thunder for west Auckland.
Looking like settled weather on the way from late week.

Very gusty in Christchurch atm. Walked out from work in the cbd about 4pm and thought it felt like walking in 80km winds, I see the airport then was hitting 77kmph gusts.
Le Bons bay was 124kmph earlier
