Bandar Mahshahr, Iran: T 46°C / Td 32°C

Unread post by Willoughby »

Ok so the worst i've felt here in the Top End is a relatively pleasant 37/29 and I the highest temp/dew point observation I've seen in Australia was 38/31 two wet seasons ago from Normanton, Gulf of Carpentaria, Queensland at around the same time.

This takes heat to a new crazy level - wow! From the Washington Post:
Iran city hits suffocating heat index of 165 degrees, near world record

Wherever you live or happen to travel to, never complain about the heat and humidity again.

In the city of Bandar Mahshahr (population of about 110,000 as of 2010), the air felt like a searing 165 degrees (74 Celsius) today factoring in the humidity.

[Iran’s heat index is literally off the charts, and this is what it feels like]

Although there are no official records of heat indices, this is second highest level we have ever seen reported.

To achieve today’s astronomical heat index level of 165, Bandar Mahshahr’s actual air temperature registered 115 degrees (46 Celsius) with an astonishing dew point temperature of 90 (32 Celsius).

It gets very hot in the Middle East in the summer months and on the 30th July the maximum temperature at Khanaqin in neighbouring Iraq was 52.0*C, that's 126*F. Taken from the SYNOP:

The 1200z synop below (3pm LT) shows a of temp 51.2C and DP 19.1C (heat-index 56C).

Media reporting on weather in this country is shocking, and to be honest that is even more shocking for a 'weather agengy' like WW to be joining in with the twisting of facts
