Enjoying some lovely "Indian Summer" weather lately, interupted by a short winterly blasts
Looks as though it will continue next week with a huge anticyclone moving towards and over us:)
Will this high introduce gloomy weather or will it be fine and sunny?

not here it will be anticyclones that sit and roll around in the tasman while it rains here then race north with if your lucky 1 day of northerly quadrant winds then back to more of the same

I have now verified that Auckland has had its sunniest Feb-April period since at least back to 1933, probably since records began at any Auck. site near the start of that century. You have NO repeat NO excuse for complaint if this month doesn't quite live up to that.

wow, out of the blue, real heavy showers came through this area last night!
up to 20mm recorded in some places!!!
(from slow moving isolated heavy showers)
you can see them on the midnight auckland rain radar
Looks to have been a weak front. Midnight sounding looks marginally unstable.
That front over the west of the South Island looks impressive this morning with a band of cb's on it.
Next anticyclone will be good for Auckland's sunshine total as it will bring in a SE flow. Clear skies. East coast areas will get some overcast cold weather for a few days.

Got to remember too we had the stormiest Feb last year since 1945 We had unsettled weather right up to the new year .The unsettled weather we get far outweighs the anicyclonic stuff and also note it was summer and lots of complaints another anticyclone...no rain...etc etc

Yes it does look good. I wondered last night if anything would pop up on this side as that period of instability moved through but thought it would be to dry for anything to happen. A very high based Cb did form just off the coast so it went like I thought (sort of). I didn't really think any Cb's would form, the high based stuff off the coast shows they were starved for moisture though. NW before a change (region of instability etc) is just not good.
Cheers.

Temps here in the North have atlast recovered to more normal levels after the arrival of some cold air early in the week. Currently 18.5C, cloudy light to mod SWesterly.
Any clearence here in the North early next week looks like it might be short lived with another Low brewing in the Tasman.
