Yes a few supercells popped up today over Nebraska and also the Texas Panhandle. And a number of tornadoes reported from the northern storms as well as golf ball size hail over the Texas panhandle. A repeat performance is expected tomorrow...the dilemma for chasers, which area to target. LI's to -10 CAPE 2500 over Nebraska while lower CAPE over the Panhandle. The big advantage with Panhandle storms is that they develop within mainly clear skies so they are more photogenic. They tend to be LP supercells too.
Yes Spwill, fingers crossed for some severe weather.

yeah, sorry about poaching the thread with that news flash, LOL
(better to get excited about a thunderstorm than the prospect of a foot and mouth outbreak being real)

Whats the latest on it??
Awsome stuff from the us today!! Photo taken by Mike Hollingshead
Yes Micheal, great suggestion! A tropical island would be good for some night time lightning photography! lol
Awsome supercell 03storm! And thanks for the link NZstorm. I'm sure you guy's will get some great stuff! Do you fear not liking NZ's thunderstorms when you come back due to you seeing stuff that is better? I hope not!
Cool animation Brian, yeah. That's what they look like.
There is one or two strikes on the metservice tracker from what I can see in the alps west of Chch. The guts of it still looks further south though so I'll probably be asleep at that stage.

Tks for the link Brian.
With a photo like thesupercell above how are the lines like that so distinctive (sp?) or have they opened there lense for longer??
Quite a dramatic cloud scape. Perhaps the shutter has been left open for a bit as there would be a very low light situation under that storm. I believe warm very dry air from the rear flank downdraught scours the warm moist air from the inflow into the storm. Two very different air types don't want to mix.

Rain developing Saturday.
i would add a 12 hour delay to that?
things never come in (sometimes they do though) quite as fast as always predicted
the ridge between the 2 big lows needs to be shifted out to our eastthough....maybe it wont/cant and we wil be sandwhiched between the 2 lows?
Rain clearing the Sthrn QLD region now... (20mm there today in Brisbane)
Low will track southwards and eastwards and will broaden Saturday & Sun(when we will see the rain) It will then deepen Monday and track westwards towards Australia again, giving Sydney rain on Monday with southerlies. That low will stick around there until about Thursday, after that who knows, though a strong cold front should brew up near WA and the HP system to the south-centre of the continent should weaken...
Also, a high risk of thunderstorms for Northland on Sunday afternoon as rain eases.
Potential for heavy tropical downpours the next coming days over the northern NI, but it seems we aren't immune from them anymore!
Yes some reasonable cold air next week but what levels could snow lower too I guess it depends how cold the air gets and where the low tracks.
Here's a pic I took this morning of some whispy high cloud lovly and red this was a breif vail which had obviously gone over us over night with those west coast TS.
Cheers
JASON
