There's a very nice crop of Cb's/Thunderstorms in the Tasman drifting this way.
They might make it here for Monday.

SEVERE WEATHER WATCH FOR NORTHLAND
ISSUED BY METSERVICE AT 1133hrs 14-May-2005

HEAVY RAIN POSSIBLE FOR NORTHLAND

A slow moving low lies over the north Tasman Sea, with an associated
warm front forecast to cross northern New Zealand during Sunday. The
front is likely to bring some significant rain to Northland in a
moist northeasterly flow. There is a risk of the rain being heavy
for a time during Sunday. Following the warm front there may be
bands of heavy, thundery showers crossing the area over the next two
or three days in a humid northeasterly flow.
There is still some uncertainty in regard to rainfall amounts, and
they may fall short of warning criteria. However, brief heavy
downpours could lead to localised surface flooding.
MetService forecasters will continue to monitor the situation to
determine if a full warning is warranted and advises people in the
area to remain up to date with the latest forecasts.

Baseball sized hail being reported again today. A number of chasers got caught out yesterday with reports of damaged vehicles from giant hail.

Spwill and I have been asking each other the question...Why arn't we over there now! Should have headed over a week ago.(getting itchy feet) :D Thought about bringing our flights forward but next week looks a bit quiet at this stage instability wise so will stick with the 20th departure date for now.
Traditionally the last week of May delivers.

Should be plenty of Thundery Cb's over the Tasman this week but how much of it will find it's way East enough to affect us ?

Thunder looks very likely for Northland/North Auckland Monday. Dewpoints should be around the 18C mark by then.

Some showers here this morning, clearing to fine weather with high cloud, 17c with westerlies.

Should stay dry tonight here and Auckland, rain developing tomorrow afternoon. Developing again Monday with heavy, thundery falls likey from afternoon as NZstorm said. Fresh easterlies also.
Tuesday looks the wettest day as fresh E turn lighter SE.

"A FEW CUMULONIMBI WITH MAXIMUM TOPS TO 600."

Thats pretty big! In a commercial plane you would be at a max crusing altitude of maybe 36-37,000 feet, these cloud tops are 23,000 feet higher gulp!

Flying too close to Cb clouds that large would be like flying too close to the Whitehouse.
