Yeah, we got that fog too. Very dense, but not too cold, only -1.5°. We had a small amount of snow before sunrise, which turned to sleet, then rain, then faded away completely around sun up, leaving just the fog, and that burned off pretty fast.

Must have been a bit of an isothermal affect to get the snow.

...mmmm interesting :-k
Fine and sunny in Dunedin according to the news reports
Cloudy here but it could of been a bit more finer
Ground fog in Central Otago/Inland areas of the lower to mid SI

all this under an area of nothing, what I mean no real anticyclonic condition. Nothing evident of an approaching cold front.
A cold event did pass to the south of us but of no significance to us here.

Maybe the atmosphere is reserving all it's energy to the developing shallow low pressure system in the north Tasman Sea. :)

Yes! here yesterday, fog well into early afternoon and cleared to some mist. Only a maximum of 13c- coldest max in the North, I see surrounding cities got 16s and 18s

You could see your breath hanging in the air all day! :D

More low cloud and fog today but the inversion lay had lifted to around 800-900m, light snow fell to around 700m this morning.

Max today a balmy 9.2, rather warm after yesterday.

Woke to a cold morning here too. Would have sworn there was a touch of white at the top of Mt Cargill, maybe I was right.

Currently 3C, with a high of only 7.8C today

Off topic question for Andy (yes another Alexandra question!)

Central Otago 45.14976 169.48833

Image

"Moutere Disputed Spu Road"

It does appear to be an official road name - see http://rates.orc.govt.nz/

Was it names after a surveyers 21st party? :?

This afternoon finally saw the clearance of 3 days of continuous fog. Whether it was thick, misty or haze. ;)

Cheers, from the fog city ;)

...reporting from the future... ooo eee ooo ;)

Another blue dome day here, 3rd in a row with no sign of fog. A bit more of a breeze today though but starting with the now daily frost. A few more this week yet.

I remember at least 3 days of continuous fog when I was at Uni in Hamilton back in June 1990. Daytime temperatures were suppressed I believe to no more than about 6C - in fact I think Hamilton recorded a colder than normal month, while the rest of NZ was milder than average. I remember travelling home to Rotorua and coming out of the fog over the Mamaku Plateau - the brightness was amazing, even though it was still partly cloudy.

I was on a Ham. flight diverted to Tauranga on Sat am - didn't mind the scenic bus trip back to Hamilton, but Tauranga airport is a piddly under-resourced facility, I would say - took forever to move a few bags around. Hamilton remained "claggy" over the weekend, but Monday was lovely with a light breeze and sunny skies. Now back to a cruddy southeasterly here - only odd showers but cool and cloudy, though perhaps brightening a bit now.
