Fine muggy day in Auckland with dp on 20C and temp upto 25C in Grey Lynn.

Can see some distant thunderheads to south (down Waitomo way).

Can hear far distant booms getting closer. Closest storm must be around 20-30kms away.

I see development west of Hamilton on the radar.
There is a towering cumulus line just east of Auckland, a few heavy showers developing out to our east.

Great thunderstorm, still going with flashes and booms that shake the house. 28mls in an hour so far, more than last few days 'storm' that didn't really touch here.

A fast moving short wave coming into the west of the North Island this morning, The 500mb temp chart shows it quite well.

Looking like plenty of showers around today for inland parts. A thunder risk for Waitomo and south Waikato late morning/early afternoon.

M/S did well when they mentioned a trough just offshore west coat of NI from Auckland south
which shows up now as a line of (weak) showers

SW wind has freshened here now behind that line (which was just a line of extra cloudiness when it passed over here last hour)
