There is a dryline set up over central Oklahoma today as the upper level storm system passes through. Looks like large hail possible for Oklahoma City rush hour.

Nickel and half dollar is sub severe
Severe hail starts with Quarters (25mm)
Dollar size (30mm)
Ping Pong (35mm)
Golf ball (40mm)
Tennis Ball(60mm)
Base ball 70mm
Softball (100mm)

These are the current US coin diameters according to the US Mint:

17.91 mm - Dime

Interestingly the US dropped the Nickel size (20mm) from their severe category to cut down on the number of warnings.

The pattern over the US has a blocked look to it.

But there will be moisture return to the plains next week so some severe weather on the cards for the chasers.

There was no spring tornado outbreak in 2015 and so far nothing to call an outbreak in 2016.

There was yet another scientific study released recently indicating that tornado events are becoming a little less common in the US but when events do occur, there are more tornadoes on those days. The study spanned the last 60 years or so.

Looks like Monday will be the next good chase day with moisture returning from the gulf.

Looking like Oklahoma will get pounded by large hail (tennis balls) later tomorrow into the overnight hours as a shortwave crosses the state.



A big system progged for the end of the week, could produce a big day over the central plains although capping/elevated storms a likely scenario too.

Very Interesting to see that Arizona has already started the Lightning Season. Not entirely sure if its the Monsoon or not as its a bit too early. But the southerly flow is in full flight, producing quite a bit of elevated storms.

Some drama's over there today...

THIS is CRAZY!!! Putting a damn fire truck in the median of a very busy highway with the lights on! What are people supposed to when you see an emergency vehicle with the lights on in the median of a highway...DUH....YOU SLOW DOWN!!! Besides that...spotters/chasers...we KNOW what to look for. WE know how to GET OFF the Roadways. The National Weather Services ALL across THIS Nation will tell you time and time again....GROUND TRUTH MATTERS AND SPOTTERS/CHASERS ARE CRITICAL TO THE WARNING PROCESS. BTW Trevor...I heard the issue with Daniel Shaw and Wichita Falls ARES has had some new developments

Heres an interesting one... coming towards Hedley today, we noticed red emergency lights in the center median of highway 287. What do you do for emergency vehicles? You slow down. The Hedley fire department was "spotting" weather from the center median of a very busy highway. On this recording, you can hear them complaining both about traffic moving slow and about chasers parking on the side of the highway. A deputy also radioed dispatch wanting her to contact the district attorney to see about having all of the chasers arrested for being a "traffic hazard". Every chaser was well off the road and not causing any issues. Looks like Donley county will become the next Wichita Falls, Medicine Lodge Kansas no chase town or county. Have a listen for yourself!

This type of debate seems to rear its head every season. Fortunately common sense should prevail as it has in the past. All interactions I have had with law enforcement has been favourable.
