Re: Thunderstorms and possible Tornadoes - 16th May
I saw a couple of flashes way to the west while on my run in the dark this morning. First time I've seen that since moving to this side of the island.
And was speaking to an ex-work colleague an hour ago from Greymouth who had just rescued his ute from "massive hail" as he described it as he was genuinely concerned it was going to get damaged.

From Auckland Civil Defence: https://www.facebook.com/aklcdem/?fref=nf
"The MetService is warning Aucklanders to prepare for thunderstorms with hail and heavy rain this week.
There is a risk of severe thunderstorms bringing damaging wind gusts and the chance of a tornado for many western areas, including Auckland where lightning activity is expected to peak between 6pm and 9pm tonight (Monday 16 May)..."

Strikes in the front seem to be thinning out as it encroaches on the north.

Lucky!! Hopefully you guys get some good stuff tonight! As for us down here. That SW is fair motoring up the Canterbury coast! I'm hoping for a good gust front by the time it reaches rolleston
