Our hydrangea plants buds have opened thinking its spring. We also have daffodils and early cheer flowers. Tulips and freesias aren't far from sprouting a flower. The early cheer has been flowering for over two weeks now.03Stormchaser wrote:Bye bye to those aphids and flies but it's already hello to spring. We have ripe grapefruit on our trees, which doesn't normally happen until September...

General June Weather
Interesting to see the Waikato river today carrying a very noticeable amount of suspended sediment, even upstream of Cambridge. In fact it's coming through the Karapiro Dam like that, as Lake Karapiro has been filled with rain fed local inflow, resulting in very different looking water to normal.

Re: General June Weather
Nothing here, just a gloomy calm day with grey skies and hardly any wind.
The barometer might as well be 1030hPa, with 'anticyclonic gloom"
Doesn't look all that wet down south, according to the Rakaia radar, but then when the new Dunedin radar comes on line, we would be better informed?
What Dunedin radar?

Snowing to 1600m at Ruapehu going by the cams. Looking long rage there is potential for a decent dump or two.

I have a horrible feeling what little snow they are getting at the moment might be lost to warm rain later in the week.SnwAddct wrote:Snowing to 1600m at Ruapehu going by the cams. Looking long rage there is potential for a decent dump or two.

Re: General June Weather
A fine day today for Auckland but tomorrows system looks reasonably active with very good moisture (precipitable water 30mm) and good upper level dynamics with a 100kt 500mb jet! A little bit of instability showing up so some places in the upper North Island including Auckland could catch a thundery downpour.

Re: General June Weather
500mb temperature chart today showing the big thermal contrast aloft over the north of the country which leads to a unusually strong jet stream at that level.
The front crosses Auckland early afternoon with some heavy squally rain.

Re: General June Weather
Its looking like a wet day here. Rain started earlier than predicted and so we have already had 8mm. Looks like we could get another 20mm on top. Sure has been a wet period after a dry start to the month (very similar to May).
