it's not unprecedented to get snow on the mountain tops (Mauna Loa is 13,678 feet high; Mauna Kea is 13,803), and December is one of the likely times to get it.

Artic air spreading across the USA midwest. I noticed Oklahoma City surface temperature was -3C whereas Dallas was on a humid 22C.

Dodge City got to -26C this morning. We are fortunate in NZ we don't get those sort of winters, they would be hell!
But that USA climate does give them that amazing thunderstorm season which we miss out on.

That's the downside with the Midwest, I couldn't handle there winters. Happy just to visit and chase and enjoy our climate for the 11months of the year!
