Will post a photo on this shortly."There could also be some weak tornados, with tornados having been reported from eastern parts of Auckland City. "

Radio report says there was corrugated iron flying through the air with the tornado at East Tamiki today. Bugger, I missed it. Also reports of trees damaged.
Spwill, that storm in your last photograph was rotating. I'm sure this was the cloud i was watching, the cumulus was spinning up, infact the whole cb had a twist to it. Unforetunately my photos don't show this well.
Have heard the southern motorway is blocked by flooding at East Tamaki.
Still raining heavily here.

Great!
Can we see a report coming Steven?!! Looking foward to it if so! Hope you and Spwill are out and about trying to get into the thick of it!
Arghh! Nothing much exciting here now with calm weather and blue skies but I think the southerly could hit within 2 hours (3 hours at most), still......I'd rather have what Auckland's getting!
Cheers

It looks vaguely snowy out west of us over the divide Aaaron, but the sun is threatening to break through the clouds here in the basin at any moment, so I doubt whether we're in for anything interesting.Aaron J Wilkinson wrote:Great!

There is no such thing as bad weather, just the wrong clothes.

Just had a weak squall come through - there is plenty of low level cloud around which is making spotting the cb's difficult.
Edit - now getting a bit of thunder off the back end of the squall. The temperature has dropped about 4 or 5 degrees.

I was out at lunch on k-rd when most of the thunderstorms passed through, very heavy rain but no hail.. and no chance to chase
Grey Lynn had about 10mm rain in two brief bursts..
Waiheke has just had lightning and small hail there, seems to be weakening now as it moves towards the Coromandel

I notice that shower activity is pretty widespread around the NI according to 3PM obs, which also show cold temperatures in many places, eg only 6C in Wanganui, Taupo, and Castlepoint, though not much colder (4C) in Waiouru. The very cold southerly outbreak has only just reached Chch, so I wonder if the NI low temps have something to do with the trough/low that originated in eastern Oz, where it (with an associated upper cold pool) brought snow and sleet as far north as southeastern Queensland.Another wet cold day, 19mm and just 10c atm
Not surprisingly the media again used the 'mini' word to describe today's Auckland twister.
