Re: General December Weather
Next week looks hot for both Islands, more particularly inland away from sea breezes. Temps will exceed 30C on a number of days. And I see Auckland getting above 25C next week.

Perhaps 27C Tuesday and Wednesday looking at current modeling. Doesn't usually get that high this early in summer.

Re: General December Weather
No wonder its being so warm when you take into account the Tasman sea water temps, around 3deg above normal, these temperatures will only keep increasing with the current weather pattern, When a depression does develop and moves over NZ its going to produce quite a rainmaker

With a High parked just east of NZ the typical cooler changes will struggle to reach NZ.
I see there is a stormy low across SE Australia this weekend.

Didnt quite get to 30deg but close to it (29deg), should be a few 30's in the next day or two by the sound of it

Re: General December Weather
Was a lovely summer afternoon in Auckland, sunny 24C with pleasant NE breeze. Went for my first swim of the season this evening - the water was surprisingly warm given the time of year.

Re: General December Weather
If swellmap is right, there are patches of >21C just offshore as far South as the West Coast Glaciers. The inner Hauraki gulf is over 23C already. Crazy.

Re: General December Weather
Melbourne Airport had a high of 15C yesterday.
I'm picking the highs will dominate NZ weather for the month of December, a drier and warmer December for NZ overall.

Re: General December Weather
Summer outlook from NIWA. Warmer than average summer expected for the whole country. Odds are that it will be wetter than normal in the north and drier than normal over the West of the South Island.

I'm sure the depressions will start rolling in just in time for the new year holidays and flood people out of camping area's as is often the case.

Yes that is a great kiwi tradition. Pohuts in flower, beers in the fridge and a doozy of a Pacific low to flood everyone out of their tents on new years eve...melja wrote: Sun 03/12/2017 14:52 I'm sure the depressions will start rolling in just in time for the new year holidays and flood people out of camping area's as is often the case.

Yes, I like that.

Has been in the past, which make people think twice about the Christmas break and have their holidays in February.

Re: General December Weather
Nudged 30°C today, with 30.1°C.
What a run the country is having.
Hopefully this isn't it for summer this year.

Re: General December Weather
Looks like the potential for high temps over NZ until Sunday then a slightly cooler change.
Too far out to know but models suggest a thunderstorm risk at the weekend/early next week with a polar jet stream crossing NZ.

Re: General December Weather
With the weak La Nina chances are it will be a good Summer in Central Otago. The Bay of Islands perhaps has the highest chance of Summer being spoilt by cloudy onshore flow. They had the best of the pattern last Summer.
Mebourne Airport yesterday had a high of 16C, Hobart Airport 12C

Re: General December Weather
27 here and rising fast again, heading for the 3rd day in a row over 30. Metservice suggesting 5 of the next 7 days will be high 20's and low 30's...some start to summer. interesting reading that the sea temps off the west Coast are 6 degrees above normal

Re: General December Weather
A cold upper system coming in Sunday evening suggests a more typical thunder set up for eastern south island. Severe hail risk given the time of year.
And a strong curved jet crossing over, to early to say for sure though.
Something to watch!
