Zap za went my radio then it has just died. The recycled cell that developed where the dying one came from just died.

Got the kids out of bed and drove 15 minutes out to the waimak side of kirwee and parked up with a great view of that oxford storm. Saw several forked lightnings across sky. Constant rumblings and a few louder peals of thunder. Kids super excited.

Richard, the lightning not showing up on the tracker would indicate it was IC.

The Canterbury plains tend to be capped in these warm air La Nina thunder set ups. So convection coming off the foothills will fizzle unless it can become elevated above the cap.

Only a couple of CGs and IC lightning discharges recorded last night on the earth networks detectors, but I find it often misses a lot still.

Time stamp on this is 9.10pm.

Hot today with 29.1 here and 29.6 at Tim’s. Looks like the airport maxed out at 28.0 though.
