The coolest day in a long while here, just 20C max. Warm fronts are classic for giving very cool surface conditions ahead of the warm change. Warmer tomorrow with hopefully not too much precip.

If there is one thing the annoys me is that how the media outlets change the weather forecasts from what's given by the MetS, one radio station spoke of 'rain' for today, while TV3 weather spoke of 'showers' neither of which will happen till at least after dark. We have a local horse races day today, how many people have put off coming thanks to there misinformation.

There ya go, there's my wee gripe for the morning :D

And that is 99% of the reason why the general public have a poor impression of forecast accuracy. Those of us working with the model data know the accuracy level and its pretty good, but the public only get to hear the spoken words of the presenters or the generalised and generic graphics, and they get a different message.

Super hot and humid start in Chch, 20C and 97% humidity. My open windows fogged up this morning!

30C later, hopefully the humidity should drop away with the nor'wester.

Hardly a breath here. Amberley gets a lot of that nighttime and early NW, air that drops out of the Waipara valley which is not always relates to any NW airflow over Canterbury

I see Canterbury Weather Updates are trying to get radar images onto their website, I would imagine that MS would charge them a lot to do that. Thoughts?

28.7 today but not once felt “hot”. Dew point 16-18. Much better than the 22-23 we had a few days ago.

Yes was windy while we were there, middle child who stayed home said there had been next to no wind all day. Odd how that happens quite often.

Insects, I think. Seems dense just N of Kaipara Harbour though. No sign of precipitation, so I can't think of anything else?
