Re: Frosts 2018
Might of been a frost here pre-dawn as the overnight minimum was minus 1.1C. Up to 1.7C at 8am , with NW high cloud cover gradually clearing away.

Re: Frosts 2018
Frost on the ground this morning in St Albans, but only a 2.5C air minimum across town at Hillmorton Station, which should mean a very slight ground frost at most.

Looks like it. Even around sun-up, the temperature this morning was minus 0.9C after a relatively mild night.

Re: Frosts 2018
Fog overnight but that went off this morning, resulting in another frost. Down to minus 1.4C.
Seems to be a bit of a frost hollow down here.

Re: Frosts 2018
Just a general enquiry, but what would be the average number of air frosts per annum at representative sites in NZ. For example, here in the UK, Woburn, in the centre of England had an average of 53 for the reference period 1981-2000 and Bournemouth Hurn Airport on the south coast (but just inland + on sandy soil) had 61. A nearby coastal site in southern England, Swanage, had an average just 18 in the same period.
EDIT: I missed out the word 'frosts' in the first line which might have made my question rather difficult to fathom.

Re: Frosts 2018
Hello Nev, thanks for the table of ground frost occurrence which is most informative. I was looking more for air frosts, i.e screen minimums of <0.0*C at specific sites.
With regard to ground frosts here in the UK, Bournemouth Hurn Airport averaged 106 ground frosts per annum in the 1981-2010 period and London Heathrow 83. The latter's average number of air frosts is 33 for this period.
Original question has been edited to include the word 'frost' in the first line which will make my question a little clearer. Sorry for the omission.

Re: Frosts 2018
Shaping up to be a light year for frosts here, have only gone below -2C twice, min -2.3 June 30.
Looking at Ruakura data 1940-93, minimum for the year occured in August only 3 times, latest being August 16th. At this stage no high pressure predicted after the cold outbreak modelled for next weekend so it may not be a frost producer (if it occurs at all, still a fair way out)
