I thought I would create a new topic for the upcoming thunderstorm season for Canterbury this summer giving the potential for an El Nino summer.
Judging from the weak, sort of unforecasted, isolated hail shower we had last night, and what models are predicting for this weak, a seperate thread might be likely for the coming months.

So has this thread been started for discussing the overall storm season and not individual events
Both. I thought it may be a usefull and seperate thread as not to clogg up the GW thread.
Auckland and many North Island areas quite often come up with thunderstorms and the West coast, so I thought I would put up a thread just to report about our storms, if we get any?
Definite thunderstorm potential for South Canterbury with some glaciation forms going up to the east and south/SW of here, this afternoon.
May reach ChCh or BP this evening.?

Could be thunderstrom potential for Canterbury tomorrow as we merge in to the on coming front.
The upper is looking quite cold and instability for an event could be enhanced with surface warmth and other factors resulting in the sound of thunder being heard in the cloud, somewhere.
Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday look good at the moment for thunderstorm potential for Canterbury.
With my scale of 1 to 5, these days look quite fruitful with a potential of 2 to 3 at the moment.
Mikey S, what is your opinion?
Was going to mention Saturday's potential for Canterbury thunderstorms on this thread but I see Richard has started a seperate thread which would cover the upper NI as well.
So might as well use that thread, instead.
