Won't be your computer. It's been slow to load lately and sometimes it won't load so fingers crossed, the new website will load quicker and cope better during busy times!NZ Thunderstorm Soc wrote: ↑Tue 04/06/2019 18:29 I don't know if it's my computer but the MS website takes ages to download with this Meridian Energy overpage downloading over it ?

You click onto the Meridian Energy icons on the map and they are bloody useless. Tells you nothing, except go to their main page.

Re: MetService Website 2019
Not good, MetService. I've seen this happen often when there is severe weather around and the same is happening again today. Perhaps someone there needs to have a chat with the good folk over at GeoNet about how to design their web systems to cope with a sudden surge in demand (eg., Kaikoura earthquake).

Backup site is still online http://www2.metservice.com/
Their servers are either under duress or maintenance with the 503 message :-/

Re: MetService Website 2019
Indeed, they do seem to have issues sometimes during active weather situations. I don't know what infrastructure they use right now, but Metservice is the type of service that should really be using a cloud platform like AWS... it would make scaling to meet demand so simple.

I'm a fan of managing your own tin for servers - plenty of opportunity for issues with performance with AWS, especially latency when data interchange comes into play

Re: MetService Website 2019
You'd hope it would be duress, rather than maintenance with a significant weather system coming in. In saying that, as the state forecaster, you wouldn't want it to be due to duress either!GraemeWi wrote: ↑Wed 05/06/2019 10:05 Backup site is still online http://www2.metservice.com/

Re: MetService Website 2019
I'm going to call it for what it was. Bloody Appalling! Whilst the ww2.metservice.com gave a tiny bit of information, it wasn't good enough. It's just garbage! Any time there is anything resembling out of the ordinary weather the Metservice servers can't cope and fall over. This has gone on too long. Whilst I realise Metservice is probably underfunded and trying to do their best, we need better. Perhaps we need to start making noise & petition MP's etc?

Perhaps they should invest more of their multi-million dollar annual profit in their own business, instead of paying it back to the government, from where most of it came in the first place.tgsnoopy wrote: ↑Wed 05/06/2019 20:38 I'm going to call it for what it was. Get rid of that stupid Meridian overpage and it might work better.
I do notice that sometimes with the website, you click onto something, whilst the page is downloading to cater for the ads, the page jumps up and you land on an advertising icon, instead of the icon you click on. This is a bit of a nuisance

Re: MetService Website 2019
Interesting and passionate article indeed. MS's technology performance yesterday is as bad as it gets. To have a 10am to 4pm outage on the main site is staggering. Initial explanation is, that it wasn't caused by peak users loads. Can't wait for the root cause analysis.NZ Thunderstorm Soc wrote: ↑Thu 06/06/2019 00:04Philip Duncan has just posted an interesting article regarding this on his weather watch home page.

Re: MetService Website 2019
I wasn't going to comment here, and have always supported the MS but the thing is here that it appears and not for the first time that there service is not robust enough. For me when there is property damage, potential for serious harm or loss of life it needs to be far better than yesterday.

Interesting to go back down memory lane from 10 years ago and read an article on weather watch NZ https://www.weatherwatch.co.nz/content/ ... e-problems

Use an ad blocker. I use AdBlock and uBlock with Mozilla Firefox and I never see the advertising guff that ruins most websites like this.NZ Thunderstorm Soc wrote: ↑Sun 09/06/2019 18:11 I wish they get rid of that stupid Meridian Energy overpage.
