Big downgrade in this mornings run of EC with moisture levels cut in half and the snow line increasing to 500m - the farmers will be relieved that’s for sure!

Looking like decent snow for South Canterbury/North Otago hill country.

The higher western suburbs of Dunedin should pick up some snow.

Chch CBD will get 75cm of snow!

Surrounding regions will get 2-3m and we will go to Martial Law, people will start trading rice for petrol.

You heard it here first!

Worth noting the heavy rain watch for Canterbury as well, MS moisture has pulled back slightly today but still some yellows around Chch city late Saturday into Sunday.

The uncertainty on many levels is associated with the cut off low's in the Tasman and how they behave today. In my opinion, projected snow levels probably wont be confidently known until tomorrow morning.

A lot of moving parts with this system... my opinion is there are still twists and turns to come even though we are only really 12 hours out. Will be one of those systems we don't know for sure until its happening. Part of South Canterbury above 500m look in line for a dump and a half, but i guess we will see tomorrow. Planning on heading into tekapo tomorrow morning (early) for a look...

The moisture is feeding in from the W or NW though? So wind will be SE... but might not get blocked by the pass? Could well be wrong though

It was very white around the Burke's Pass area around Queens Birthday WE with that system so will be interesting to see how snow will fall around the inland hills around South Canterbury.
Interesting wavy cloud forming over Geraldine today later this afternoon.
Photos later.

Up at Mt Hutt today, was an amazing start to the day with around 3C at the base and light winds but it quickly clouded over from the NW around 1pm, no snow but conditions deteriorated surprisingly quickly up there but still plenty of time in the morning to get some good runs in :D Hard to believe this will all be under 50-100cm this time Sunday...
