That's because the storm activity is elevated.tornado wrote: Sun 08/09/2019 03:46 the rain hasnt been heavy. just moderatish as well. not much wind. a good amount of lightning and thunder though

It looks like Waikato has the best potential for thunder/hail today but Auckland in the frame later in the day.

nice if we do get another thunderstorm i will be happy i love thunderstorms. I got 20.32mm from this mornings thundery front, so if those isolated storms form in auckland then maybe i could get a bit more. I just love the sound of thunder.

Got woken by heavy precip around 2am and heard distant thunder.
Looks like we get into the wetter end of the deal with this low with longer outbreaks of precip possible from later in the day. An easterly develops in BOP which means a heavy rainfall for Coromandel region. Remaining unstable through to end of tomorrow.

Interesting to see that cell pop up on the radar north of Auckland within the last hour, a sign of unstable conditions I guess

Quite a temperature difference across the North Island. 15-17C from Auckland to Northland but only 5C at Taupo.

Observed a little bit of hail in central Auckland this morning while driving around, stones at least 1cm.
