Must've been an isolated as nothing was recorded at Hillmorton and the radars have showed nothing near Chch. Otherwise today looks like another mild one like the weekend, but maybe cloudier.
I was surprised to hear rain on the roof this morning. Not enough to tip the gauge but enough to dampen the concrete. Only lasted about 20 mins from about 6:45. Colourful sunrise, nice to watch (glance at from time to time ) while cycling to work.
Yes I recorded a trace in my raingauge this morning from the rain which I think must of been heavy virga as it came from off the NW Arch cloud this morning.
Nice rainbow looking WSW from here, even double in parts.

Probably wasn't from virga if it got to your gauge
There is no such thing as bad weather, just the wrong clothes.
It was definitly quite a heavy shower because it woke me up, 1.5mm recorded. When I looked east you could see the shower tracking acros the city out to sea.
A lot of promise for Taranaki. Thunder possible in the west from Westland to Northland but looks like the cold unstable pool will be aimed at central NZ. May get cold enough for light snow to 300m in the deep south but the environment in the south seas is capped (stable) so not much in the way of convective cloud getting into southern NZ.

Not taking too much of a chance on this one even though there is an upper level trough over us involved.
Might have to tend to agree with MetService saying that it may be a little early in the season, ....but then you never may know

I see TVNZ called snow again for the south (Friday, down to 200m!), and maybe up into Canterbury. They were wrong about it last week too. The rain this week has washed away what snow we have faster than a lot of people can remember seeing it happen before.
Maybe a little snow will fall some place but I'm not holding my breath.

Yes ,but then, there is no meteorological term for virga reaching the ground, that's why I termed it as heavy virga.

... Yes there is a meteorological term... it's called "rain". Of course there is no term for virga reaching the ground because by definition it doesn't
